The Effect of Cognitive-Behavior Integrative Arts Therapy on Self-Expression for Low-Income group Children

Abstract
The aim of the study is to recognize the effect of the program on self-expression of low-income children. The subjects of the study were 7 elementary students- 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from low-income workers. The study designed pre-post design, the experimental group and from October 2010 to January 2011 twice a week were 15 times by 60 minutes. Cognitive-behavioral integrated arts program was conducted to the experimental group in order to verify the effects after. Self-expression Behavior Scale was used as a research tool in order to measure self-expression of the low-income children. Data collected were analyzed by SPSS 17.0 as a statistical analysis. In order to compensate for the limitations of the behavioral measure of self-expression tests behavioral observation methods and picture test were used as research tool to examine pre-post comparative analysis. The results revealed by the study are as follows: First, the measure of behavioral self-expression analysis points that scores of full self-expression, behavioral, cognitive and emotional self-expression showed significant differences as result of the behavioral measure of self-representation. We can see here that cognitive self-expression, emotional and behavioral self-expression, and general self-expression are increasing in order of change. Second, cognitive behavioral analysis observed the frequency of self-expression was a consistent rise. Third, HTP analysis tests the relationship with others and self-confidence rises and the desire and positive expectations about their future for the cognitive changes appeared. Looking at the findings on cognitive-behavioral therapy integrates art to improve low-income children's self-expression can be seen that the positive impact.
